The California Health and Human Services Agency Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly, along with Cal Hospital Compare, released the 2020 honor rolls in recognition of hospitals across California for their high performance in maternity care, patient safety, and commitment to safe opioid care.

Alhambra Hospital Medical Center receives 5 star rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
Alhambra Hospital Medical Center is extremely proud to announce that they are among one of only 39 hospitals in California and one of 455 hospitals nationwide to be rated 5 stars by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in its recent update of the Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings on the Hospital Compare website on April 28, 2021. This is the highest rating possible for hospital and it represents excellence in 5 measure groups in mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care.
CMS rated over 4,500 hospitals from 1 to 5 stars, with five representing the highest quality rating. Of 4,586 hospitals, 13.5%, or 455 hospitals, received 5 stars; 988 received 4 stars; 1,018 received 3 stars; 690 received 2 stars and 204 received one star. For more than a quarter of hospitals, 1,181, no information was available.
In addition to this wonderful achievement, Alhambra Hospital Medical Center just received a sixth "A" in a row for their excellence in Patient safety from the Leapfrog Group in the latest spring 2021 grades. The team at Alhambra Hospital has been consistent in their efforts and has successfully proven that their utmost priority is the safety of our patients and community.
"We are honored to be recognized by CMS as one of the top hospitals nationwide for overall quality of care and patient experience," said Iris Lai, Chief Executive Officer. "To have achieved a 5 Star rating from CMS and also a sixth "A" from the Leapfrog group is an amazing recognition of the hard work and dedication of our entire circle of care to providing the best and safest care possible to our patients and our community."
Last but not least, our Hospital also made it again to State of California's 2020 Patient Safety Honor Roll.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The purpose of the Overall Hospital Rating is to improve the quality of information posted on Hospital Compare, a searchable website designed to help Medicare users make decisions on where to receive care. CMS uses star ratings for its Compare website for consumers to choose highly rated hospitals and other providers in their area.
Star ratings for hospitals are not directly related to financial reimbursement, but many of the measures used to determine the overall star ratings are also used in other programs, such as the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program, that do directly affect reimbursement.
